Have you watched  “Top Gear” UK based TV show who targets Motor enthusiasts.  If so you might be aware about an interesting character that test drives and races cars.  For years the Stig’s Identity has never been revealed until this week.   Well, actually I am not the stig!  What has the “stig” and me got in common?  Keep reading on….
Recently I held a Marketing seminar in Brisbane for salon owners.   Most salon owners are predominately women, but we still have men turn up as well.   I have the privilege to teach people to think outside the square with creative online and offline marketing.  It was brought to my attention that most of my marketing was to a female market and missing out entirely on the male market.  This had me thinking …     To my understanding in the hair and beauty industry is that you shouldn’t be everything to everyone or your nothing to no – one.. You may need to read that last sentence again!    You Shouldn’t be everything to everyone or your nothing to no – one..  
When you understand that principle it makes so much sense!  What is your market?  The more neiched you are at your services the more business you could potentially have.  
Recently I was working with a funky salon in Brisbane.  Brye’s target market is boys and girls, men and women from the 14- 34 age bracket.  Attracting the Emo style and colour services.   So his marketing should be on myspace,  Facebook and sms and technology based marketing as well as offline direct mail marketing.  I also suggested some outrageous online marketing that gets exposure.  
I also help a Nail and waxing and spray tanning  salon in Port Macquarie. Her clientele is 18 – 48 Women, Since working with Corrine we were able to get some major publicity through the hospitals and targeted the clientele that suits her services. Her business has quadrupled in 6 months.    
Back to the stig..  Now I have an idea that you would love and very inexpensive to do…   What if you could do a cross promotion with a bike shop?   Now I know what you’re thinking??? What the hell would a bike shop and a hair/beauty salon have in common?  With every helmet sold you could give away a free men’s hair “Stig” cut.  Most men would have girlfriends or a wife?     Nothing sexy about having smelly dirty helmet hair.  For every cut you could upgrade to wash/colour? Or even take advantage of their partner’s hair/beauty care as well.  
Actually I am my very own STIG because I have test drive my own marketing strategies in my own salons.  And many other salons I have worked with.  They work and they can work for you too.
